Mid-century stairs meet modern solution

Temple Terrace is a time capsule in the best sense — mid-century ranch homes with terrazzo floors, big windows, and the split-level variations that defined 1960s Florida suburbia. The original owners are now in their seventies and eighties, still in the homes they bought new, and the half-flights that once barely registered are now the day's main event.

Split-level stairs are stairlift naturals: short, straight, and quick to fit. A few hours of installation gives back the bedroom level entirely. And because these homes are single-story at heart with a level change rather than a full second floor, one lift usually solves the whole house.

Terrazzo and tile: the mounting question

Temple Terrace homes often have terrazzo or tile on the stairs — beautiful, durable, and a common source of worry: "Will the brackets crack my terrazzo?" The answer is no. We mount with proper technique for hard surfaces, using the right hardware and careful drilling. We have fitted lifts on terrazzo stairs many times; the treads handle it fine, and the brackets sit cleanly.

The university area adds another pattern: longtime residents aging in place near USF, wanting to stay close to the community they have been part of for decades. A stairlift is often the one change that makes staying possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will installation crack my terrazzo stair treads?

No. We use proper technique and hardware for hard surfaces like terrazzo and tile, and we have fitted many lifts on them. The brackets mount cleanly without cracking.

My home is a split-level with a very short flight. Is a lift worth it?

If those six or seven steps are hard for you, absolutely — a short flight you dread is worse than a long flight you can manage. Short split-level flights are among our quickest installs.

Can the lift be removed later without damaging the terrazzo?

Yes. Removal includes filling the small bracket holes, and on hard surfaces the filled spots blend well. We restore the stairs as part of our removal service.
